フランスで最も権威あるワインガイド「ル・ギド・デ・メイユール・ヴァン・ド・フランス 2023年版」で、ベッサン・トランブレイが遂に3つ星に昇格しました! 今後、入手困難・価格高騰するのも時間の問題か?!

シャブリの町の北西、5キロメートルほど、フルショームの対岸に位置するラ・シャペル=ヴォーペルテーニュの集落に拠を構えるジャン=クロードが、ふたりの息子とともに12ヘクタールのドメーヌを運営。ジャン=クロードで現在4代目となるが、ドメーヌの歴史は19世紀後半の1878年まで遡ることができる。

ドメーヌが唯一所有する特級畑はヴァルミュール。大柄で重量感のあるシャブリを生み出すクリマといわれているが、このワインの凝縮感もただごとではない。白桃や砂糖漬けのレモンピールに蜂蜜。ミネラルが堅牢なストラクチャーを構成し、じつにパワフル。

ジャン・クロード・エ・ロマン・ベッサンが、2020年ヴィンテージよりベッサン・トランブレイとなった。 ちなみに、元々の地所の大部分がジャン・クロードの妻エヴリンヌ方のトランブレイ家の所有である。

Based on intelligent farming, one of the reference points for this storied vineyard is again Bessin-Tremblay’s 2022 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur. Soaring from the glass with a bouquet of kaleidoscopic complexity, featuring aromas of grapefruit zest, fennel and beeswax, mingling with crisp orchard fruit, it’s full-bodied, deep and layered, with tangy acids and a minerally, tensile personality, concluding with a persistent, saline finish. It has retained plenty of taut Chablisien character and unites the generosity of the vintage to great effect. While many worry of the warming climate, the Bessins have once again produced an excellent set of wines, and as far as their range is concerned, it does not get much better than this Valmur.

Jean-Claude Bessin officially retired, handing over the reins to his sons, Romain and Antoine. Today, Romain is responsible for work in the vineyards, while Antoine manages the cellar. What was formerly Domaine Jean-Claude Bessin has been rechristened Domaine Bessin-Tremblay-Romain's mother, the source of many of the domaine's vineyards, being a Tremblay. The name may have changed, but the quality at this 12.3-hectare domaine in La Chapelle Vaupelteigne remains just as impressive.

Bessins, as they put it, love the acidity and tension of Chablis, provided it's paired with substance and flesh-a philosophy that has been admirably translated into practice through wines with cut, concentration, texture and definition. Their method involves hand-harvesting, followed by fermentation and elevage in a combination of used oak barrels (about 20% to 25% for premiers crus and one-third for Fourchaume La Piece Au Comte and Grand Cru Valmur) and stainless steel tanks, with the wines resting on the lees for up to 18 months (14 months for village bottlings).

Farming and winemaking at the domaine are entirely compliant with organic certification and have been for years, with the exception of one product that Bessins employ to ensure the wines don't precipitate tartrates. Since 2022, all wines are bottled under Diam Origine corks. This estate truly deserves to be talked about more, as it belongs among Chablis's top four or five domaines. In favorable years, the domaine produces seven wines (in challenging years, readers will find only four cuvees), all of which come highly recommended.
