江戸小川町に生まれる。応挙を追慕し、深く写生を研究する。
後に光琳を慕い臨撫模倣、精妙を極める。妙顕寺にある光琳の
墓は抱一が再建したものである。
再版には、明治期に木版画で出版した当時の「原版木」を用い、
京都在住の名摺師が当時のままに手摺しました。
Hoitsu Sakai, 1761-1828
Hoitsu Sakai was born in Edo as the son of a nobleman.
That gave him the financial means to devote his life to
the fine arts and become a well-known painter.
Hoitsu made a few woodblocks and a few books,
but the main activity was painting in Rimpa style.
